Women’s Ministry

Ministries, Small Groups, & Service Opportunities

Join us as we work closely with the Department of Human Services and the Foster Care system to reach children and families who are hurting, right here in Hot Springs. The ministry provides care bags with essentials for children who have been pulled from their home, childcare for young ones awaiting placement, and assistance to those who fight for the protection of the innocent day in and day out. We also at times offer mentoring to young mothers who are trying to reclaim custody of their children. It is truly a unique opportunity to be a light in a very dark world, seeking to care for children whose lives are altered in a moment. It is necessary to complete a background check and provide paperwork before beginning in this ministry. Meetings and tasks performed as needed. Leader: Sandy Gordon (501-276-8089)

The objective of this ministry is to help ladies who are new members of FBC Hot Springs to feel welcomed, included, and loved. The process begins as soon as someone joins the church. She is greeted and welcomed by a representative of Women’s Ministry and is presented a gift bag that includes a devotional, WM brochure, and other items. First Welcome luncheons are hosted by this ministry several times during the year, and invitations are sent to all ladies who have joined the church since the last luncheon. Each new member has the opportunity to meet all the ministry leaders and to hear about the many ways one can become involved in Women’s Ministry. Leader: Barbara Vick (501-262-9389 or 281-725-4828)

The RISE Ministry was formed to maintain regular contact with the homebound women of our church. Monthly visits with these ladies give us the opportunity to stay aware of their needs and to keep them updated with happenings in the Women’s Ministry and in our church. Be Responsive. Let her know you’re listening and that you care. Be Intuitive. Listen for needs she may have that we might fill. Be Sensitive. Use your best judgement to consider the length of your visit. Be Encouraging. Use scriptures and words that will reflect God’s love. The ladies who participate in this uplifting ministry deliver flowers and baked goods to two women (as assigned) once per month. A card from the Women’s Ministry is included with each visit. Leader: Elizabeth Elrod (501-425-7959)

This is a support group for caregivers of the homebound. It can be challenging, and sometimes lonely, to be a full-time caregiver for someone else. We want to help make sure you are taking care of your own heart so that you are able to better care for the needs of others.

Comfort in Christ provides support to all women who have suffered the loss of a loved one. This woman-to-woman group offers support during the journey from grief to healing, prayer and encouragement, and a safe and understanding place to share one’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Books, handouts, devotionals, and other resources with a spiritual emphasis are provided to help each person regarding the grief process. This group meets the first Thursday of the month at 4:00pm in Room 2020. Leader: Rhonda Frederick (501-538-3911)

Because missions are such an integral part of who we are as a church, the focus of Women on Mission is to promote awareness of missions endeavors worldwide. In addition to praying for missionaries and providing missions studies each year, the group also uses projects to involve the church in contributing to missions in practical ways. The Pure Water, Pure Love is one of our yearly projects which provides water filters and clean sources of water for missionaries who are serving in the field. This group meets the fourth Thursday of each month from 10:00 – 11:30am in Room 219. Leaders: Wanda Thorpe (501-623-5608) and Janie Woods

A totally confidential support group for women who have experienced the pain of a past abortion. This group helps women experience freedom and healing in a nonjudgemental and safe environment. Leaders: Marilyn Morgan (morgan.marilyn@att.net) or call 501-520-4105 and Kathy Slater

For any ladies who like to crochet, knit, or sew. This ministry makes prayer shawls as well as baby blankets for our baby dedications. We meet the 4th Thursday of each month from 1-3pm in Room 131. Contact Wanda Thorp for more information.
